What Is It?

Hair miniaturization is the formal term for thinning hair or hair loss. Although you may associate hair loss with men, women can also experience it too. Hair miniaturization is when your follicles shrink which makes it almost impossible for your hair to grow. This can cause your hairs to fall out as the shaft has become damaged, which can then lead to bald patches and receding hairlines. You might not know that you’re experiencing hair miniaturization until it’s too late, meaning you have to look at more invasive alternatives to help.

Can I Stop It?

Hair miniaturization can be caused by a number of things such as aging, your DNA, and most commonly the DHT hormone in your body. DHT can also be known as an androgen, and it comes from testosterone. The more testosterone you have, the more DHT is produced which can then cause your hair follicles to shrink. It can also mean your hair has a shorter cycle when growing, so it will fall out a lot faster than it can be replaced. Although it’s not completely possible to eradicate DHT, some people have been prescribed medication by the doctor to try and reduce its production. However, there are other alternatives you can try.

Natural Remedies

There are plenty of potential natural remedies for hair loss, and a lot of them date back hundreds of years. However, there isn’t enough scientific research to conclude that they’re 100% reliable. If you’d like to try some natural remedies first, you’ll need a lot of patience as the results can take at least a couple of months to start to show. One of the most popular natural oils that can help boost hair growth is rosemary oil. Rosemary is said to stimulate your circulation, which in turn could potentially help encourage hair growth. It’s also essential that you’re getting enough vitamins and minerals in your diet, otherwise, it will be impossible for you to grow your hair back.

Permanent Procedures

If you don’t want to rely on possibilities and instead, you want something with a bit more of a guarantee, then you might want to look at hair transplants. These procedures involve removing some of your scalp or follicles and transplanting them into areas where you’ve lost hair, or it’s thinned. After a few weeks the transplanted hair falls out and new hair should begin to grow in its place. Again, the recovery and results can take up to at least 6 months, so you need to be prepared to wait. Hair transplants are said to be a one time procedure, as they can last years and years. However, if you had one done in your twenties, you might find by the time you’re edging closer to 50 that it needs topping up. This is because the transplant doesn’t stop the production of DHT, it just helps the hair to grow back. As you age, DHT will still be present and continue to be produced so hair loss could happen again at a later stage.

Hair miniaturization can be hard to cope with, but there are ways you can help to reduce it. If you’re struggling with hair loss, it’s a good idea to speak to your doctor so they can make sure there’s no underlying cause. Once you’ve confirmed this, you could start trying out some natural remedies, or bite the bullet and go for a transplant. Hair miniaturization doesn’t have to be the end of your luscious locks. Instead, take some time to investigate what treatments are available to you and you’ll soon be back with a gorgeous head of hair.
