Modern Parenting

Being a parent is a risky business since you are basically molding a small human into a big one. It comes as no surprise that it can be quite hard sometimes to distinguish between good and bad parenting styles, and sadly there’s no one size fits all when it comes to child rearing. However, there are some ways i.e. the guide to modern parenting by which you can tweak your parenting style which will be beneficial for your child and yourself too.

1. Sleeping schedules are important

Babies need a lot of sleep, both during the day and night. It’s also important to note that some infants are generally very light sleepers so there’s not much you can do when they wake up in the middle of the night. However, a rule of thumb for implementing a functional sleep schedule is to teach your baby the difference between night and day. Even though your baby may cry after the night time feeding, don’t make it too excited by giving it things to play with. Let them either soothe themselves by crying it out, or just hold your baby while lulling it to sleep. When it comes to kids who are a bit older, in order to make their nightly shut eye more productive, let them dispose of their electronic devices an hour before they go to bed. This way they will get more quality sleep.

2. Pay attention to their nutrition

When your kid is young you may choose to feed it breast milk or milk formula. When choosing the milk substitute, you have to be careful to choose the one which is a right fit for your child. The best way to do so is to read the labels and pay attention to online reviews. If your toddler needs a milk supplement you may read this Friso 3 review and see if it’s the right fit for you. Milk supplements are great options for toddlers because they come enriched with vitamins they need. If your kid is big enough to eat solids, it is important they get three meals a day and two snacks with adequate hydration in between.

3. Don’t be authoritative

When disciplining the child the easiest but probably the worst route is to be aggressive and authoritative, but research has shown that this approach to discipline is quite inadequate. The way you discipline your child also depends on their age. For example, if you parent a toddler it is very important to be consistent and patient with them, since they are very likely to act like little savages whenever possible. Putting our child in a ‘time out’ has proved very effective with toddlers and slightly bigger children too. Also, do not punish your kids too often but praise them for the good work they’re doing.

4. Instill positive attitude towards school

Kids nowadays experience a lot of pressure in school, whether they are naturally gifted in this area or not. For you to ensure that your child gets most out of their education you should put emphasis on rewarding their effort, not natural smarts. This way your child will learn that there’s always room for growth in the school setting and that a good grade is not the end goal but knowledge.  However, if you notice that they have some problems with their schoolwork you should address this accordingly by first diagnosing the issue. When you figure out what is the root of the problem, you will know what to do next.

5. Control their screen time

It’s very easy to waste time online both for kids and adults. In order to control how long and what kind of content your kids are consuming online you should probably install some kind of parent control app on all of their devices. This way their device will be locked when they use up their allotted time.
