How Do You Balance Exercise and Rest?

When you are trying to find a balance in your life for everything that you need to do and everything that you want to do, it can be a really tough job. There is not a lot of time in the day, but it is all of the time that you have. Here are a few tips on how you can get the most out of your day i.e. to balance exercise and rest when you want to have time to relax, but still keep active.

Find the right sleep schedule

If you are looking to have more energy in the day, while still feeling relaxed when you don’t have that much energy, you need to start with a good sleep schedule. It can be hard to find the right sleeping schedule when you have a job that requires you to work odd hours, but if you find even the smallest routine when it comes to your sleep patterns, it will help a lot.

Don’t oversleep on the weekends

When you have a sleep schedule finally set into place, don’t undo all of the work that you just put into creating one by oversleeping on your days off. These are the days that are most important. While you might see the day off as a nice time to relax and sleep in on your nice queen mattress, this will only bring you back to square one.

You need to wake up at the same time, eat breakfast like normal, and follow every step that you do when you are going to work or school. However, instead of actually going to work or to school, bring in an easy morning exercise. It can be stretches, yoga, or a quick Zumba class on YouTube. This is all up to you, but you should consider bringing in one or all three of these things on your days off so you don’t feel the need to sleep in. You will instead still have something to do to keep you busy.

Make sure that you get a certain amount of steps a day

Even if you aren’t trying to lose weight, you should still consider purchasing a fitness band to keep yourself in check. You want to make sure that you reach the goal amount of steps every single day. This is a goal that you can set yourself if the default step goal is too high. You can change the goal from steps to miles if you plan on going the distance.

While you don’t necessarily need to buy a step tracking watch if you have a smartphone that keeps up with your movement for you, it is a great way to keep track of how active you are when you aren’t paying attention. This will remind you to be more active on days when you don’t feel motivated to get moving, and you will have something that you can show off to friends when they feel like they’ve done the most physical work when compared to the other members of your friend group.

Make room for a workout routine in your busy schedule

There are plenty of ways to bring a workout into your schedule even when you are extremely busy. If you find that you don’t have much time in your daily life to have a workout schedule because you are always sitting at a desk, try purchasing an exercise ball to sit on rather than the office chair that you are used to. This will force you to move around in order to keep balance and remain sitting on the chair at work.

A shake weight is another good idea if you have dull moments in the office. And there is always the option of getting an exercise bike so that you are still moving, even when you are sitting down. Maybe have someone drive you to and from work, but drop you off a few blocks away from your final destination so that you get some extra steps in.

While it might seem impossible to bring in exercise and workout routines when you are extremely busy or unmotivated, there are still ways to do it. If it makes you feel any more inspired to start this journey, try workout out for a day with a new schedule, and then taking a day off. Do this every other day to see how much your life is changed. Continue the schedule or raise up the workout routines within your week if you like it. And if you don’t like it, you didn’t lose anything but a little bit of time.
