Nottingham QMC Stoma Support Group
The C.I.U. Stoma Group at the QMC Nottingham aims to help other ostomates to try and establish a lifestyle that enables them to live with a colostomy, ileostomy, or urostomy. We are a friendly group and welcome relatives, friends or anyone who is supporting a colostomate to attend our meetings. We appreciate that some feel nervous when attending meetings by themselves.
The group has been going for some 25 years and we have about 45 members. We have a committee of 8 people with a chairwoman, secretary, treasurer. We hold committee meetings four times per year and hold our AGM in May. Our general meetings are always on the third Saturday of the month and the last for about two hours from 1000hrs to 1200hrs. Our meetings are held in Clinic 2, B Floor at the QMC, Derby Road, Nottingham. We also arrange a Christmas lunch and at the New Year meeting have a buffett and invite along guests like people who have helped us i.e. the sister from clinic 2 and the stoma nurses from the companies.
We try to have a speaker at our meetings but this is not always possible, however, we do have a representative from one of the manufacturing firms, a different firm each month. These reps show their products and are sometimes accompanied by the company's stoma nurse.
A cup of tea or coffee with biscuits are provided free of charge at each meeting. There is no membership fee and no monthly meeting fee as we generate our income by holding a raffle each month, this then pays for the refreshments, printing, postage etc.
