Friends stoma support
The "Friends" support group was initially formed in 2003 after a suggestion by the Pilgrim Hospital Stoma team. Although various ostomy associations had branches in Lincolnshire, there were none based around the Boston area. Since that time our group has gone from strength to strength with a present membership of 100.
We aim to provide support to all ostomists, their family and carers and cover an area from Skegness & Mablethorpe on the east coast, to the Spalding area in the south and the Sleaford area in the west. The group has been very active in raising funds for local hospitals to purchase equipment that is of benefit to ostomists and to train nurses to care for stoma patients. Our group meetings also provide a forum for our members to get together and have informal discussions about any problems they may have. Our Programmes are now a mixture of demonstrations by suppliers, talks by other organisations, items by our own members and a smattering of social outings throughout the year. Since 2005 we have been holding monthly meetings at the Rochford Tower Hall on Tuesday afternoons from 2.00pm to 3.30pm.
Our present committee is:-
